Reading Group News
From Elsebe Vetten
On Thursday 17th August the U3a Reading Group was treated to a showing of
the film “Die Wonderwerker” and a talk on the background, setting and
character-interaction by Dr Denise Bjorkman.
Denise explained the time in Eugene Marais’s life when he travelled around the Nylstroom area and his arrival, whilst suffering from a drug addiction, at a farm in the area. She commented on the setting of the film, the scenes and the relationship between the characters, and how they interacted with each other. She explained how Katinka Heyns crafted the film, and what we should look out for as the story unfolded.
Everyone agreed that our viewing of the film was enriched by the guidance that as given us by Denise. Her talk was given in terms we could all understand, and we were captivate by her charm and passion for her subject.
Denise has kindly offers to show us more films and give comment and guidance in watching these.
After the viewing there was much lively discussion around the lunch table,
when we had soup, rolls and desert – all contributed by members of the
reading group for our guests.
